The regular meeting of the Waterford-Halfmoon Union Free School District Board of Education held Thursday, April 1, 2010 was called to order at 7:00pm by Mr. Richard Charron.
PRESENT: Richard Charron, Marcia Ricci, Denise Keyoskey, Carol Cooper, Thomas Lansing, Sandra Clow ALSO PRESENT: Timothy Lange, Carol Lyon, Joseph Siracuse, Mary Kelley, Karen Grimes ABSENT: Robert VanBramer There were no comments from the public regarding items on this evenings action agenda. Comments from the Administration Elementary grade level spelling bees were held this week Kindergarten Screening will be held April 13 - 15 Purple Pinky Day was a success; $500 was raised to support Rotary International’s efforts to eradicate polio The Lake George Opera performed the musical The Three Little Pigs Elementary students raised funds for Habitat for Humanity Mr. Lange announced the building will be closed Monday, April 5th due to repairs to the water line. ACTION On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the minutes of the March 18, 2010 Board meeting. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the following warrant: (Mrs. Ricci questioned the following items: Joy Clark - special education teacher payment; Collision Experts - bus repairs; Goldstocks - athletic equipment; a payment for copy paper.) General Fund #64 for $96,613.69 On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the proposed 2010 - 2011 district budget in the amount of $18,996,747 and one proposition to lease a school bus at $9,863 per year for five years; to be presented for voter consideration on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the appointment of Mark Bell as voting machine inspector for the May 18, 2010 budget vote and BOE election; at a salary of $270. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the appointments of the following people to work the polls for the May 18, 2010 budget vote and BOE election; at a salary of $8.15 per hour: Jeanne Lobravico, Effie Piacente, John Piacente, Mary Jane Rooney, Rita Boudreau, and Mary Comitale On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the second and final request from the JH SGA to take the students on a trip to the Bronx Zoo on June 11, 2010 (135 students/15 adults). On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the Memorandum of Agreement between the Waterford-Halfmoon UFSD and the Waterford Teachers’ Association to amend Article XXVI of the 2008 - 2013 Agreement. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board approved the following warrants: School Lunch #15 for $8,749.31 Special Aid #18 for $315.14 General Fund #66 for $4,913.46 On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board accepted the resignation of Mary Mickalonis as cafeteria monitor effective April 16, 2010. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board accepted the resignation of Rosemary Fontaine as cafeteria monitor effective April 1, 2010. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board accepted the year-end report for Masterminds from Paul Ferrara. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board accepted the year-end report for Arts in Education K - 6 and 7 - 12 from Hollie Russo. On motion by Mrs. Ricci, seconded by Mrs. Clow and by a vote of 6 - 0 the Board went into executive session at 7:08 to discuss an employment contract.
