Project T. A. L. E. S.

(Tutoring—And—Literacy—Empowering—Students)

The M. Marion Ranney Chapter of the National Honor Society is undertaking a district-wide initiative to improve the literacy of all of the students in our district.  Project T. A. L. E. S. is a peer tutoring program that will be of benefit to all students in the district who take part in it.  NHS students will be available daily at both the Middle School and the Elementary School Homework Clubs for valuable, one-on-one tutoring in whatever subjects a student has need in, while focusing heavily on needed reading and writing skills that will benefit them in school and in life.

NHS students will each be required to contribute a minimum of 10 service hours per academic year in the Project T. A. L. E. S. initiative.  They will sign-up for tutoring times at the “Homework Help Desk” which will be set up daily in the cafeteria during both the Homework Clubs.  They will take an active role in seeking out Homework Club members who might need a helping hand.  They won’t simply wait for students to come to them for help.  There will ideally be at least one, if not two, NHS students who will staff the “Homework Help Desk” each day that Homework Club meets (Monday-Thursday).

Information about this program will be made early in September to the Middle School and the Elementary School via morning announcements and the district newsletter.  It will also be mentioned in the new school newspaper once it is up and running.  We hope that this project will prove wildly successful and ultimately improve the overall literacy of the students who take advantage of Project T. A. L. E. S.
